PCOS is not a one-size-fits-all condition, and there are four types of PCOS. The four types of PCOS are insulin-resistant PCOS, inflammatory PCOS, post-pill PCOS, and adrenal PCOS. Each type has its characteristics and treatment options, and it is essential to work with a healthcare provider to determine the most effective approach for managing your symptoms.
Insulin-resistant PCOS
The most common type of PCOS, and it is marked by insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body is unable to utilize insulin properly, resulting in high levels of insulin in the bloodstream. This condition may be caused by diabetes. People with this type of PCOS often gain weight, have high blood pressure, and have high amounts of cholesterol.
Inflammatory PCOS
An example of polycystic ovary syndrome that is characterized by inflammation in the body. C-reactive protein (CRP), a sign of inflammation such as an existing autoimmune disease, skin disorders, fatigue, joint pain, or headaches in the body, is often found in higher amounts in people with this type of PCOS. Acne, hair loss, and weight gain are among symptoms that are often linked with inflammatory PCOS.
Post-pill PCOS
A kind of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) that manifests up in women after they discontinue the use of hormonal birth control. This type of PCOS is often marked by acne and cycles that don't come on time.
Adrenal PCOS
A subtype of PCOS that develops when the adrenal glands release an abnormally high amount of the male hormone androgen. This particular kind of polycystic ovary syndrome is often accompanied by acne, excessive facial and body hair growth, and sporadic periods.
It is important to work with a doctor to figure out what kind of PCOS you have and to make a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Women with PCOS can control their symptoms and lower their risk of long-term health problems if they get the right care and support.
